How are water buoys fixed

by | Jul 14, 2025

Water buoys are mainly fixed through the ‌ anchor chain – ballast system ‌, and their stability is jointly determined by the length of the anchor chain, the structure of the ballast and environmental adaptability.

Fixed principles and core components

The core of the water buoy fixing system is the combination of anchor chains and ballast stones:

  1. Anchor chain structure ‌。
    • The gradient connection of saddle chains, short chains, half chains and long chains is adopted, and the entanglement of water flow is reduced through rotating rings. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌
    • The length of the anchor chain is usually three times the maximum water depth of the setting area (according to the standard of the East China Sea Area), ensuring that the buoy swings limited with the ballast as the center in the wind and waves。‌‌
  2. ‌Sinking stone design ‌。
    • The concave structure at the bottom of the cast iron counterweight utilizes the negative pressure principle to adsorb the seabed, preventing it from sinking into silt and resisting displacement。‌‌‌‌

Environmental adaptability program

Select differentiated fixation methods based on water area conditions:

  1. Conventional water ‌ : Single chain fixation, the length must precisely match the water depth (a chain that is too short leads to instability, while a chain that is too long increases the risk of floating out of control).
  2. ‌Youdaoplaceholder0 deep water/harsh environment ‌ :
    • Deep-sea anchoring systems are combined with composite anchor chains. For instance, in waters over 3,500 meters, a buoy-mooring coupling hydrodynamic model is adopted. ‌ ‌
    • It is equipped with an enhanced structure that can withstand wind speeds of 60 meters per second and wave heights of 20 meters under extreme sea conditions. ‌ ‌
  3. ‌Youdaoplaceholder0 shipborne or nearshore scenarios ‌ : Connect small buoys via deck fixators, suitable for temporary needs such as channel guidance. ‌ ‌

Elements for enhancing stability

  1. ‌Buoy body design ‌。
    • Cylindrical or spherical structures reduce water flow resistance, and internal weights (such as lead balls) enhance the stability of the center of gravity。‌‌
  2. Material selection ‌‌。
    • It adopts high-density plastic, steel shell for corrosion resistance, and glass fiber reinforced surface tension adaptability。‌‌
  3. Maintenance mechanism‌。
    • Regularly remove the attachment of Marine organisms, check the wear of anchor chains and the adsorption efficiency of sedimentary rocks, and carry out emergency maintenance after extreme weather。‌‌
